“Legendary Poem” Theme and Variations Op. 7 nr 5
This lengthy work is composed of a theme and twelve variations. I wrote it during a period where I wanted to practise bold writings. The theme has an epic and legendary character whose variations are projected towards extreme virtuoso renditions and the search of particular timbre effects. The third variation is, for instance, for left hand only and it gives the impression of hearing both hands playing, while the ninth variation, “Andante visionario” (“Visionary Andante”), stands out for its persistent bass line that imitates bells chiming from afar. The theme of this work will be the starting point for other five variations collected in Opus 58.
